About Alyson

Alyson Molloy Hussey loves working with mission-focused nonprofit leaders who are making a difference in their communities. In 2017, she started a nonprofit consulting practice to share the knowledge she gained over two decades working for nonprofits, serving on boards, and teaching resource development at the college level.

Most recently, Alyson was the Director of Development for Silver Lining Mentoring, an organization dedicated to improving the outlook and opportunities for young people impacted by the foster care system. Silver Lining celebrated many successes during her tenure; the organization was named a 2014 Innovator by The Social Innovation Forum, and a 2015 Investee by Social Venture Partners. She led the team through the selection and implementation of a new name, logo, and brand, and prioritized creating a culture of philanthropy that included a development and communications plan. The building excitement paid off, and in three years, her team increased revenue raised through philanthropy by more than 50 percent.

Over the last 20 years Alyson has held many staff and volunteer positions in the sector, and working to improve the lives of young people is both a passion and a constant. She started her career as a Case Manager for CASA of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she oversaw volunteers who advocated for the best interest of children who experienced abuse and neglect. When she moved to Boston in 2000, she joined the board of the Hattie B. Cooper Community Center, and was asked to be the Director of Development in 2008. Alyson has also been a volunteer nonprofit consultant with Empower Success Corps, a grant review team captain for United Way Massachusetts Bay Merrimack Valley, and a deputy grant review team captain for The Philanthropy Connection.

Alyson has a bachelor’s degree in English from Providence College, and a juris doctorate from California Western School of Law. She has taught the Resource Development in the Nonprofit Leadership Program at Wheelock College. In 2018, Alyson earned a Certificate from Marlboro College in Training, Facilitating and Consulting.

Alyson lives on the South Shore of Boston with her husband, John, and Golden Retriever, Brady. In her free time she loves to read, practice yoga, take long walks in the woods and visit her three children at their respective colleges.
